GENTLE SLOW FLOW YOGA FOR EVERYBODY

Taught by Daryl Harris

This is a slow flow class with an emphasis on breath and mindful awareness. Suitable for beginners as well as experienced and offering modifications for different levels of experience. The class exhibits an atmosphere of acceptance and mutual support by participants.

Darrell Harrison: As a part time faculty member, he taught kung fu classes each year in Martial Arts/Self Defense and Women's Self Defense for Berea College. His teaching focus for the past ten years has been yoga with added elements of drawn from king fu exercises and movements drawn from Chinese and Tibetan health systems. Darrell holds the philosophy that yoga can be practiced by practically anyone and endeavors to make his classes inclusive to anyone with the willingness to learn.

CORE POSTURE SLOW FLOW YOGA

 


Taught by Andri Kukas
Strengthen the spine’s core musculature. Open up tight places. Get centered by breath work coordinated with slow flow between asanas (postures). Mix in deep restoration poses.

CHILDREN’S YOGA

Taught by Stephanie Runyan
In this playful yoga class designed especially for school aged-children (5-8). They will learn yoga poses, breathing, and relax
ation exercises which cultivate a calm mind, increase strength and flexibility, improve gross and fine motor skills, improve concentration, and help them understand how to identify and manage their feelings by empowering and inviting them to explore self awareness. Games, stories, and music will be incorporated into this fun, non-competitive class.  Each class ends with a whimsical meditation and relaxation.

TUES 6-7 PM (Ages 13-17)

EMPOWERMENT YOGA FOR TEENS

 

 

Taught by Stephanie Runyan

This non-competitive, mindfulness-based yoga class is designed especially for teenagers. They will learn yoga poses, breathing, and relaxation exercises which cultivate a calm mind, increase strength and flexibility, improve concentration, and help them understand how to identify and manage their feelings. Yoga invites them to explore self awareness; through self-awareness comes empowerment. Each class ends with a whimsical meditation and Shavasana (deep relaxation).

COMMUNITY YOGA 

 


Taught by Andri Kukas and Emily LaDouceur 

Free Food, Free Childcare, and yoga space provided by First Christian Church at 206  Chestnut Street. Community Yoga is challenging, but still a beginner-able class. Relatively able-bodied, yes, but people have come in and done 10 minutes of class and spend the rest in child pose. A bit of flow with some power yoga with this group. Ends with a very relaxing Savasana. There's a pretty equal balance of strength training, flexibility development, and meditation/breathing.  Find your inner finesse and get fit. $3-10 suggested donation.

GENTLE CHAIR YOGA

 


Taught by Bob Patrick
This class is intended for students who have physical limitations, especially any student for whom being on your hands and knees or repeatedly getting down on and up from the yoga mat would be difficult.   Classes will include breath work, and a combination of

movements to open hips and shoulders, maintain spinal flexion and balance and bring the benefits of yoga to these special students.

This class will explore basic yoga poses such as forward bends, twists, balancing, triangle, bridge and sun salutations.  No prior yoga experience is necessary. It will include work both on the mat as well as standing. To assure student safety, there will be an extensive use of props.

MEET YOUR YOGA INSTRUCTORS

Andri Kukas is the proprietor of Thrive Studios. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Yoga Instructor, and specializes in Craniosacral Therapy and restoring function to the body. She loves to educate her clients about better self care. She has previously taught environmental education and dance. She has been loving yoga for 25 years, and teaching yoga for 10, with certification through Amanda McMaine.

Bob Patrick:  Bob has practiced yoga for 30 years in the Iyengar, Vinyasa Flow, and TriYoga traditions.  He has over 500 hours of yoga teacher training.  For the last several years, Bob has taught yoga to veterans in both residential and outpatient settings at the VA Health Facility in Lexington.  Bob lives in Berea with his partner, Leela, and their three cats. 

 

 

 

Stephanie Runyan is a local artist/small business owner at Wondrous Ceramics in Berea, KY. She has her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Ceramics and Education Studies from Berea College. Stephanie is a certified yoga teacher and trained at the Essence of Yoga Center. She has 11 years of experience with teaching children of all all ages in school settings, learning centers, and art camps. Stephanie has always had a vast interest in cultivating awareness and creative self-expression through art and movement. She has dedicated her life to children and teenagers by empowering and inviting them to explore self awareness and creating artwork. Her hope is to give others the tools that they need in order to understand and express themselves.

Jaime Brown: Laughter is the best medicine! Jaime discovered Laughter Yoga at PlayThink 2015 and hasn’t looked back. Her goal is it to let everyone know that laughter is a tool, a tool that is with them at all times, that will make you feel better, and can be used at any time. Jaime has worked as a researcher in the psychology department at the University of Kentucky for over 15 years. Her studies taught her about the healing benefits of movement, laughter, and love. Romana Kalova: Romi’s vision is to bring the heart of yoga and its true purpose as a way of finding happiness to you. She moved to Lexington from Chicago in May of 2008, where she lived since she came from the Czech Republic in 2004. She received her initial Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago and became a certified yoga instructor. Since the beginning of Romi's yogic path it has been a journey of healing and personal transformation and her experience led her to embark on an in-depth experiential study of yoga as a healing art with Joseph and Lilian Le Page and Integrative Yoga Therapy. She became a Certified Yoga Therapist, C-IAYT, recognized by International Association of Yoga Therapists. In 2015, she was led to visit India and in the traditional ashram setting in Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga, she studied Sanskrit, Nada Yoga (Yoga of Sound), Bhakti (Yoga of Devotion), advanced subjects of mantra, and tanpura - the traditional Indian string instrument. She became certified in the Heart of Sound -the world's first 200 hour yoga teacher training based entirely on the transformational power of sound.
